Neridia

Roads and observatories lie beneath a clear, weightless sea.

The sea above the windshield hardly seems to weigh anything.

History

Neridia’s clear sea hangs with so little apparent weight that early builders suspended roads directly beneath it. They later established observatories on the dry underside, where a ripple overhead can reveal a distant disturbance hours before it reaches shore.

Economy

Its observatories sell ocean forecasts and fabricate pressure-balanced enclosures for traveling instruments. Undersea gardeners supply edible ribbons of algae, and freight crews carefully exchange air with the surface to keep the enclosed districts comfortable.

Rainbow Road IAS

Joined in Show Year 16 · The Stillwater Window. The Beneath-the-Sea Exhibition admitted the tour after local engineers fitted temporary pressure sleeves around its visiting garages.

A fictional calendar kept by the Rainbow Road IAS. Year 1 begins with the first passage through the sandcastle on the beach in 1999; years count completed journeys inside its pocket of eternity, not elapsed Earth years. Local seasons identify each world’s first gathering. These histories belong to Leonida Larry’s imagined multiverse.

Iridella’s arrival · Neridia

A moment on the road

“There is an ocean above the windshield. Breathe; the road builders have thought of that too.”

In this galaxy · The passage we share

A duck-built ferry takes the smallest vehicles while the tide reveals the submerged showground. The company discovers that safe passage means making a route for everyone.

At the water’s edge the convoy discovers that the crossing is too narrow for everyone to rush aboard. A little duck-shaped ferry keeps returning for the smallest travelers. Starlite waits with his wheels above the tide while Iridella helps arrange the queue.

The waves erase every tire mark on the beach. The crossing remains because someone comes back for the next passenger. Iridella draws the ferry into the atlas before she draws the palace; a world is remembered by its kindness as much as by its grandest building.
