A bright terrace rises above an apparently endless sea of clouds.

Below the terrace, somebody else is having a rainy day.

History

The first terrace was a weather station on a high rock just above the cloud layer. Its observers built a garden in spare rain barrels, then guest rooms for people who had climbed up simply to see a horizon above the weather.

Economy

Cloudmere exports accurate high-altitude forecasts and condensers that collect clean water from passing mist. Terraced nurseries and small guesthouses provide local work, while cargo lifts bring in the heavier food and building supplies.

Rainbow Road IAS

Joined in Show Year 15 · The Low Cloud Sea. The Above-the-Weather Breakfast welcomed the tour onto the expanded terrace, where its cars stood in sunlight while rain moved far below.

A fictional calendar kept by the Rainbow Road IAS. Year 1 begins with the first passage through the sandcastle on the beach in 1999; years count completed journeys inside its pocket of eternity, not elapsed Earth years. Local seasons identify each world’s first gathering. These histories belong to Leonida Larry’s imagined multiverse.

Iridella’s arrival · Cloudmere

A moment on the road

“We are above somebody else’s rainy afternoon. Cloudmere gives us a generous place to notice it.”

In this galaxy · The possibilities we carry

The road offers several beautiful imagined endings. Iridella asks the visitor to keep one small detail rather than trying to possess the entire sky.

Here the road offers versions of every arrival: a different light, another turn, a castle seen from a window they never opened. Iridella watches a possible journey shimmer alongside their own. For a moment she wishes she could keep them all.

Starlite’s windows hold the places they actually shared. Their limits make them precious. Iridella closes the atlas on the roads not taken with a gentle hand, leaving room for a future visit. Choosing a memory does not require denying the others.
