Ash Meridian

A quiet meridian runs through plains of pale volcanic ash.

One dark milepost can make a very large plain feel smaller.

History

A survey line across the pale ash became the planet’s first dependable measure of distance. Rest stations along that meridian later opened their records to everyone, allowing small settlements to plan water deliveries across a landscape with few permanent landmarks.

Economy

Fine ash is processed into lightweight blocks and filtration media in sealed workshops. Meridian stations earn freight and surveying fees, reinvesting them in covered water tanks and the maintenance of sheltered roadside gardens.

Rainbow Road IAS

Joined in Show Year 13 · The Settled Sky. The Milepost Assembly entered the tour when its convoy carried matching distance markers to every rest station along the old survey line.

A fictional calendar kept by the Rainbow Road IAS. Year 1 begins with the first passage through the sandcastle on the beach in 1999; years count completed journeys inside its pocket of eternity, not elapsed Earth years. Local seasons identify each world’s first gathering. These histories belong to Leonida Larry’s imagined multiverse.

Iridella’s arrival · Ash Meridian

A moment on the road

“There is our dark milepost. One small familiar shape can welcome you across an enormous plain.”

In this galaxy · The repair that carries us

A useful imperfect repair gets the company moving again. Beneath the hot sky, the exhibition becomes a workshop where help matters more than polish.

A warm metallic rattle follows them into the workshop court. Nobody pretends it is music. The convoy stops, opens its tool rolls, and makes room for a repair. Iridella holds the lamp; its colors look almost ordinary beside the furnace.

When they depart, the repaired piece still shows the mark of the work. Starlite declines an offer to polish it away. That small seam belongs in the photograph too. Their atlas begins to hold evidence of care, not only flawless arrivals.
